Lewis Hamilton says he's confident he can close the 22-point gap to team-mate Nico Rosberg and get back on track with his bid for a second championship.

The Mercedes driver has already managed to close an even larger gap after he retired from the opening Australian Grand Prix.

Rosberg held a 25-point advantage heading into Malaysia, but four consecutive wins for the Briton meant he took the lead of the championship until Rosberg's win in Monaco.

Retirement from Canada has put him further back since, but he's confident the gap can be overcome once again.

"There is a long way to go. I caught up before and I'll catch up again," he told the BBC.

"I'm two DNFs down; that's almost 50 points I've lost. I'm going to have to recover them somewhere else.

"[A run of wins] is what I'm going to have to do," he explained. "But we've got lots of races ahead of us so let's hope there is more good fortune to come in the future."
