Lewis Hamilton secured a dominant pole position at his home race, the British Grand Prix, with a lap over four tenths quicker than his team-mate.

Nico Rosberg helped Mercedes to secure a front-row lockout for Sunday's race and, at times, looked as though he would continue his Hamilton-beating form, but a final lap from the British driver simply overwhelmed the entire field.

Red Bull start third and fourth with Sebastian Vettel taking the honours with a lap only just quicker than his soon to be retired team-mate Mark Webber.

Once again Paul di Resta proved his worth, outqualifying Adrian Sutil in fifth and seventh whilst Daniel Ricciardo impressed to go sixth fastest.

Romain Grosjean, Kimi Raikkonen and a rather surprised Fernando Alonso complete the top ten.
