Red Bull's Christian Horner has jumped to Ferrari's defence after the FIA called upon the Italian team to answer questions about its own private Pirelli test.

Horner, who has been very vocal about the Mercedes/Pirelli tyre test scandal of which he lodged the first protest, says Ferrari's test isn't even comparable because they used a 2011 car.

"Ferrari's position is different, even if they have used their official reserve driver (Pedro de la Rosa), they didn't use their 2013 car. The two situations are not even comparable," he told Italy's Autosprint.

"Everyone in F1 is subject to the rules; teams, drivers and suppliers such as Pirelli. Rules also apply to them," he added. "The matter [needs to] be analysed quickly and fairly."

When asked about the secrecy of the test, which Mercedes and Pirelli both claim to have been open about, Horner replied: "It's simple, you use that attitude when we don't want someone to know something, otherwise they would be very open about the issue, as are for all their other activities."
