Kimi Raikkonen says he must focus on qualifying as high up as possible in Monaco if he's to have a chance of winning the race.

The Finn has struggled to get the most from his E21 on Saturday, though the team admit their cars strength is longer-runs, rather than one-lap pace.

His average starting position has been sixth, but with Monaco's lack of overtaking opportunities, Raikkonen is concentrating on extracting the highest possible grid position he can to give him the best chance of victory.

"We have to focus on qualifying," he said. "It's a difficult place to race as it's so narrow and – as I said before – passing is nearly impossible."

As was the case in Spain, it might play down to the best strategy rather than overtaking on the circuit.

"We'll have to see how the tyres perform and if there are any good strategies to be made, but the most important thing is to qualify well.

"We’ll do the best we can, but of course everyone will be trying to be on the front row. It's not impossible for us, but we won’t know how good we are until we get there.

"We know that tyre changes have to be made so there are opportunities if you run a different strategy to your rivals, but it’s certainly more difficult here than anywhere else."
