Pirelli hopes to raise money for charity by selling the HRT F112 car it bought from the stricken company at the end of 2012.

The tyre supplier had planned to use the engine less car, bought after the HRT team went bankrupt, as a promotional tool rebranded in Pirelli colours.

However the company's motorsport director Paul Hembery explained to Reuters that there had been little interest from the marketing department, so they will instead sell the car on eBay.

"There doesn't seem to be a lot of enthusiasm, it's a bit of a shame really," he said.

"Our marketing department said nobody seems to want to use it. So I said let's put it on eBay for charity.

"We're trying to find a category on eBay for an F1 car and we'll probably run it [the auction] for quite a few months to see what money we can raise for charity."

The team sold five other cars to a Spanish auto breaker in February.
