Whiting to inspect McLaren rear wing

Friday-05-2010

The FIA's Charlie Whiting will be at the McLaren technology centre today to inspect the rear wing of the McLaren MP4-25, after Red Bull asked the FIA to clarify it's legality.

"There’s a bit of a fuss over McLaren’s rear wing," Christian Horner told the Telegraph yesterday.

McLaren have responded to Red Bull's protest by inviting the FIA to view the wing.

"We have no concerns with it, but we have been invited by the team to view the car so Charlie [Whiting] is going down to have a look," an FIA spokesperson said.

Martin Whitmarsh explained that McLaren had been in earlier contact with the FIA to ensure the wing was legal, therefore Whitmarsh was confident the FIA wouldn't have a problem.

"The wing is different and innovative, yes," Whitmarsh said. "But we have been in contact with Charlie over a period of several months to check that it complies with regulations. We have been assured that it does."
