Renault consider following Toyota out of F1

Wednesday 04, 17:52

Renault held an emergency meeting today to discuss the possibility of exiting F1, continuing with it's current team or simply becoming an engine supplier.

The Anglo-French squad has suffered it's worst ever season, finishing eighth, just two places from the bottom, which was taken by second placed Red Bull's sister team, Toro Rosso.

The result of the emergency meeting will not be revealed until later in the week as Renault would rather not distract from a publicity event on Thursday at which Renault president Carlos Ghosn will promote the company's efforts at introducing zero-emission vehicles.

Renault F1 team principal, Bob Bell will be in attendance, but will not have a say in the future of the team.

With the signing of Robert Kubica from BMW-Sauber, who pulled out of the sport this year, it was thought Renault would continue and push for wins in 2010, however this meeting looks as though the French manufacturer could be changing it's mind.

If Renault decide to leave, they will be the fourth manufacturer to leave in two years. Following Honda, BMW and Toyota, who announced their exit on Wednesday.
